Dr. I-Ming Hsing is the Professor and the former Head of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His research interests lie in the interface of molecular engineering, materials engineering, molecular biology, data science, and healthcare, in particular in the areas of nucleic acid-based bioengineering and disposable, wearable and skin-adherent biosensors. Bioengineering
Yumeng Cao is currently pursuing her Ph.D. degree at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Her research interest is mainly in CRISPR-based rapid diagnostics for at-home self-tests of virus pathogenic samples (e.g., SARS-CoV-2 RNA, HPV DNA) and cancer-related gene mutations in low variant allele frequency.

Current Ph.D. student in bioengineering (HKPFS awardee, 2022). Zibin obtained his BSc in bioengineering at The University of Melbourne. His research interests: Machine Learning based- wearable heart health devices (ECG), small molecule binding mechanisms, and biomedical signal processing.

Yanan Li is currently a PhD student in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). She obtained her Master's degree from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 2022. Her research interests lie in the area of nucleic acid detection and point-of-care testing (POCT).

Yuxuan Zhu got his Bachelor's degree in Applied Chemistry from Huazhong Agricultural University (2020) and a dual degree in Computer Science from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (2020). He also obtained a Master's degree in Analytical Chemistry from Wuhan University (2023). And he started his PhD. Study in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (2023). Research Interest: Multiplex detection of nucleic acids.

Xiaolong got his BSc and MSc in Chemistry at Shenzhen University. His research interest: CRISPR-based diagnostics such as virus detection and SNP genotyping, and other application based on CRISPR.

Xuemeng is currently a PhD student in Chemical and Biological Engineering and her research interest is the development of biomaterials for skin management.

Dr. Lu Xiao
Dr. Lu received her master’s in medicine from Tsinghua University and her Ph.D. degree from HKUST in 2022. Xiao developed diagnostics platforms and established rapid screening systems at the Institute of Disease Control and Prevention, Academy of Military Medical Sciences. Her research interest is the development of technology in POCT.
Dr. Alan Fernando RODRIGUEZ SERRANO
Alan graduated summa cum laude with a B.Sc. in Biotechnology from Tecnologico de Monterrey, Mexico. He was an HKPFS awardee and obtained his Ph.D. in Bioengineering in Prof. Hsing’s group, where he engineered small molecule biosensors using allosteric transcription factors and functional nucleic acid circuits. His research interest is the application of computational methods to design and understand biosensing mechanisms.
